My dad is the same — he had horrible childhood that he rarely opens up about, he was never shown love, he grew up in a cold and violent environment… and his political opinions are very much similar to your father’s (he’s Czech so I can’t say he’s a Republican because I’m pretty sure he doesn’t know what that means).
